This is the Online WorldHerbs® Formulary (and also my "thesis" for my doctoral work in Naturopathic Medicine). This has been an ongoing lesson herbal lore that has been in the works for over 10 years. This site is FREE for private/ commercial research. Contact us if you would like to use any content for use other than printing sections to show your physician. I´ve included herbs found in American, American Indian, Ayurvedic/ Indian, Asian, TCM, African, Australian / New Zealand native medicinals, Pan Asian, German Commission E recommendations & advisories; & all other countries´ /cultures´ formulae. If I´ve missed any, if there are other names that you know these herbs by; in ANY language; or you know of one or another that I should address. Please please email the herbalist.

Herbs are used to aid in the healing of wounds, illness; they serve as a preventative to sickness as well as to maintain human & animal well being. More herbs are added every few weeks. Come back & visit us. Definitions can also be found at ebay on our storefront to explain the various ingredients in the products.

Herbs tend to fall into categories which describe general attributes. I will try to keep these general attributes close to the front of each definition. Note The herbs themselves may treat something in exact opposite of their general category...such as a Stimulant that is also a Nervine due to its Diuretic nature.

Be advised that if an herb is normalized to Africa; the listing will mention that. If it is an herb found in certain "old fashioned" country names; I will put what I knew to be their names when I initially found the herb...However in today´s rapidly changing political scene; you may have to be somewhat forgiving about the place names.

Chinese Herbs (Asian): Will include the Chinese/Asian names plus our latin name plus where & what it benefits -No Asian Herbs should be taken without the advice of either a registered TCM or Asian Herbal Pharmacist´s advice. These herbs treat the whole body in a completely different medical mindset. See TCM for more details on this truely Alternate Therapy.

Description: Ajmud - {Carum roxburgianum} Seeds used. Ayruvedic medicine & Indian spice. Reduces pain from bronchitus, bowels & asthma.

Description: Also known as pimpinellum diotica. Aids in soothing indigestion & calms coughing. The oil from the seeds can help to expel flatulence. Flavoring herb in both eastern & western cooking/ pharmaceuticals.
Uses: Tincture - As a calmnative for overindulgence in eating Adding fresh or dried leaves into hot tea, soups or salad dressing can help reduce Flatulence after eating gas inducing produce. Herbal Actions

Anise
Other Names: Aniseed, Sweet Cumin, Pimpinella anisum, Illicium ve Region: European
Description: Also called Chinese Anice & Illicium. Stimulant,Tonic, Coughs, Gastric problems, bronchitis, asthma, increase mother's milk production. Ancient Greeks used tea made from Anise & Fennel to combat asthma and other respiratory ailments. A few seeds dropped into warm milk can be used as a sleep aid. Seeds are also used as flavorings in breads & pastries.
Uses: Contains chemicals: creosol and alpha pinene which help loosen bronchial phlem. Herbal Actions

Arrow Root

Description: Root primarily used. Orignally used by the American Indians to heal wounds caused by poisoned arrows. In its dried form, it is a good deterrant for Athlete's foot. Simply sprinkle it in all of your closed toe shoes. Reduces varicose veins, arthritis & other skin inflictions.
Uses: Good for the circulatory system. As a nutritive food for children & the elderly or people recuperating from stomach issues; or invalids; the product is easily digested, pleasant tasting & contains about 82% starch. Herbal Actions

Balm, Melissa
Other Names: Lemon Balm, Citronella Balm, Melissa officinalis Region: European
Description: Also known as Lime Balm. Stimulant for the Heart, Calmnative for the Nerves. Should be included in every gardener's medical cabinet as a principle tea/ tonic herb. Tea can be drunk to start perspiration to drop a fever. Wound healer, fights herpes. Repairs a "tired" brain.
Uses: Balm can be mixed with honey & vinegar, warmed & used to gargle for sore throats & teeth. Calmnative. Steeping leaves in wine & using them as a poultice will draw the sting from scorpions & other spiderbites. Steeping fresh leaves in wine will draw boils to open. Nervine. Other Names: Sugja, Barbari Tulsi, Ocimum basilicum Subja Region: Asian
Description: Seeds are used in beverages. Allowed to soak in water & form a gel. Stirred into milk with rose syrup & crushed ice, they boost body strength & reduce heat. Used in Unani medicine to control intestinal worms.
Uses: Has religious significance to Muslims ever since the Moghul emperor Aurangzeb decreed that this basil be planted on his tomb. Herbal Actions

Description: True source of gum bedellium mentioned in Old Testament. Tribal ritualistic herb used by Arabic cultures. Carminative, Stomach relief, & to help relieve congestion in colds/bronchial problems.

Bergamot
Other Names: Bee Balm, Citrus aurantium var.bergamia Region: Amer_Indian
Description: A small tree that resembles the lemon tree. The flowers have a wonderful odor & the fruit is pale yellow in color. The rind yields an oil that is used for perfumes & as a sleep inducer.
Uses: To make a sleep pillow; mix rose leaf, rosebuds, geranium leaf as well as small piece of cottoon scented with the essential oils of lavendar, bergamot & cinnamon. Can also relieve symptoms of headache, migraine. Herbal Actions

Description: Bethroot -{Trillium erectum} (alt. Red Trillium, Birthroot, Wakerobin) American Indian herb. Root tea used for menstrual problems. Also used as an aphrodisiac.

Description: Stimulates uterine contractions, nerves, reduces muscular pain in joints & muscle spasms. Rich in iron. High in maganese, selenium & vitamin E.

Description: Chilean evergreen shrub. Leaves used as Diuretic, Stomach Calmnative & Sedative. Chemical extract; Boldine stimulates the flow of Bile/ Gastric juice. As a GOUT Preventative: it helps in the excretion of Rric Acid from the system.
Uses: Used in South America as an STD fighter especially for gonorrhea. May be a good gout defense in the form of tea. Herbal Actions

Description: Extremely expensive South African herb. Leaves used. One of the BEST herbs used to combat Urinary Tract, Bladder & Kidney Infections. Soothes Enlargement of the Prostate gland, & Irritation of the Urethral Membrane. Decreases inflammation of the colon. High in Calcium, Potassium, Sodium along with Trace Minerals of Phosphorus, Iron, Zinc & Selenium.
Uses: Improves appetite, relieves nausea and gas, is a diuretic and diaphoretic. It is principally used in chronic diseases of the urino-genital organs, as in cases of chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bladder, irritable conditions of the urethra, in urinary discharges with increased deposit of uric acid, and in incontinence connected with prostate abnormalities. Specific Indications: Abnormally acid urine, with constant desire to urinate. Buchu has been used to treat gout and rheumatism.Also used as a tea to combat Cystitis, Urethritis & Painful Urination.
